Meetings of the Friends’ Board of Directors are open to the public and include an agenda of Board business, reports by committees, and discussion of projects and activities. Board Meetings are held at 12 noon in the main assembly room at the Main Downtown Library.
An Annual Meeting of the Friends is also open to the public and held early each year at the library. A slate of officers for the upcoming year is voted upon at the Annual Meeting. The events of the past year are recapped and if awarded that year, the Breaking New Ground Service Award is presented at this time.

Guest Speaker, Etaf Rum
The speaker for the evening will be Etaf Rum. Rum was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, by Palestinian immigrant parents. Her family was very traditional and she entered into an arranged marriage when she was 19. She now lives in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Her debut novel, A Woman is No Man, was published in 2019 and immediately garnered accolades for her stark portrayal of the life of an Arab woman living in a strict, traditionalist society. The book quickly became a New York Times bestseller and was featured on the Today Show’s Read with Jenna. Her second novel, Evil Eye, will be published in September of this year.
This project is made possible by membership to and fund raising by the Friends of the Wilson County Public Library.
