To develop and increase the use of the library and participation in its educational and cultural projects; To focus attention on library services and needs; To maintain an association of individuals interested in books and libraries; To stimulate gifts of books, magazine subscriptions, audiovisuals, endowments, trusts, bequests, and other donations of money, materials, and volunteer time; To confer with the Board of Trustees of the library on matters relating to the support and welfare of that institution.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Friends of the Wilson County Public Library has been accorded Section 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit organization by the Internal Revenue Service.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our Organization<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Friends of the Library is governed by a Board of Directors chosen from the membership of the organization for terms of three years. Three consecutive terms (9 years) may be served before retiring from the board. The Board oversees the programs, projects, and financial status of the Friends; appoints committees to provide for the efficient management of the affairs of the organization; and raises funds through contributions,
membership dues, endowment gifts, and other legal means.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Meetings<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Meetings of the Friends\u2019 Board of Directors are open to the public and include an agenda of Board business, reports by committees, and discussion of projects and activities. Board Meetings are held at 12 noon in the main assembly room at the Main Downtown Library quarterly, on the second Thursday of the month.<\/p>

An Annual Meeting of the Friends is also open to the public and held early each year at the library. A slate of officers for the upcoming year is voted upon at the Annual Meeting. The events of the past year are recapped and if awarded that year, the Breaking New Ground Service Award is presented at this time.<\/p>
